Common Questions
Why is trustworthiness important?+ The Trust Equation covers the most common meanings of trust that you encounter in everyday business interactions. What is important to remember is that those meanings are almost entirely personal, not institutional.
People rarely give over their trust to institutions; really, they trust other people. While companies are often described as credible and reliable (the first two components of The Trust Equation), it is the people within the companies that make those companies what they are. And when it comes to intimacy (openness & transparency) and self-orientation, these dimensions are exclusively human.
o The 2026 Edelman Trust Barometer Report reveals a world retreating towards insularity. As economic anxiety, geopolitical tension, and technological disruption intensify, people are narrowing their world to smaller, familiar circles that reflect their views, and this hinders personal, economic, and societal progress.
o Being trustworthy in the eye of others is fundamental to earning and retaining customers, developing, and maintaining effective relationships and being influential.
