Resiliency in Challenging Times In this time of profound difficulty and challenge for our nation as well as our global brothers and sisters, I am reminded of a musical inspiration of mine whose resiliency and resolve in the face of adversity are truly astonishing. It is common knowledge that Ludwig Van Beethoven, one of the world's most famous and beloved musical figures, began to lose his hearing as a young man. His affliction grew steadily worse as he got older, culminating in total deafness by the time he reached his late 40's. Yet Beethoven's output remained prolific until his death in 1827. From his pen sprung symphonies, piano concertos, string quartets, and piano sonatas both powerful and sublime, works that continue to enthrall audiences around the world. In this issue of Key Inspirations, we hope to provide you with information, perspectives and ideas to enhance your own resiliency and resolve. Working together, I'm confident we will emerge from this crisis stronger, smarter, and eager to create some masterpieces of our own. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions.
On a different note, the staff of Inspire! Imagine! Innovate!TM would like to wish you and your family a fulfilling and prosperous 2009. |

These, and similar business mysteries usually can be understood through a close examination of the personal style of the leader. A leader's style can literally train his or her followers not to think. While this isn't the intention of any rational business leader, it is an unintended consequence for many.

Interview with Kathryn Gannby Mike BrennerKey Inspirations' Senior Editor Mike Brenner recently spoke with Kathryn Gann, president of The Denver Theosophical Society, about potential, positivity, and personal centeredness in challenging times.
KI: You are the President of The Denver Theosophical Society. I'm sure a lot of readers will be wondering what the difference is between "philosophical" and "theosophical." KG: Theosophy is a type of philosophy that focuses on spiritual things. It comes from a compound Greek word originally coined by the Neo-Platonists: Theos means divine and Sophia means wisdom. So it's a philosophy that deals with spiritual wisdom teachings. It's not a religion per se but is, you might say, the heart and essence of all religions. read full story |

Learning or Failing? The Value of Making Mistakesby Jonathan Vehar & Bob EckertFor years now we've been harping about the importance of making mistakes in driving organizational innovation forward. And we regularly get push back. From clients who don't want us encouraging their direct reports to make mistakes, and from direct reports thinking their managers do NOT want errors. And sometimes they're right. But always at the expense of innovation.
