Key Inspiration for the Day: Employees, customers, and profits thrive on Emotional Engagement. Follow this Path: How the World's Greatest Organizations Drive Growth by Unleashing Human PotentialThe Gallup Organization, one of the world’s preeminent researchers of human nature and behavior, has developed a new model of business competitiveness, based on its own research and recent advances in economics, psychology, and the neurosciences. At the core of this model is the conclusion that:

“Organizations can only reach their full potential by emotionally engaging their employees and customers.”

In their book Follow This Path (Warner Books, 2002), Gallup consultants Gabriel Gonzalez-Molina and Curt Coffman call today’s competitive landscape an Emotion Driven Economy, where emotional engagement is playing a key role in organizations’ success:

“The response [to emotional engagement] has been so phenomenal that these organizations don't refer to their return patrons as loyal. They speak of them as being emotionally engaged customers.”

Artistry of Leadership has real impact with executives at the February 2007-St. Louis Leadership Center Colloquy.

“Outstanding. Great connection and learning.”

“One of the best leadership experiences I've been involved with.”

“Excellent, dynamic, thought-provoking.”

“Outstanding! A totally different mindset to being a better leader. Very original!

“This was such a creative way to present leadership concepts. Awesome! Thank you! It is so inspiring to hear your perspective on leadership and to free your emotion.”

“Grace, insight, credibility and freedom. Truly an inspiring event. Awesome.”

According to these researchers, emotional engagement is equally important for employees:

“When [emotionally] engaged employees utilize their natural talents, they provide an instant, and constant, competitive edge. They build a new value: emotionally driven connections between employees and customers.”

These findings support Kevin Asbjornson’s cutting-edge work in Emotionally Intelligent Leadership and his ground-breaking application of Emotional Intelligence in organizational environments.

“Empathy is the root of Emotional Engagement and Emotional Intelligence,” Kevin says. “It is this ability to relate to the emotional experience of others that enhances one’s own emotional intelligence. This in turn fuels inspiration, imagination and innovation that are self-perpetuating.”

These concepts can be found in Artistry of Leadership - Creating Meaningful Connections®, Kevin’s Performing Arts-based Leadership and Performance experience, which is helping organizations around the world leverage Emotional Intelligence to achieve new levels of success.

Leading Business Author’s Keynote Supports the Principles of Artistry of Leadership

In his keynote address at the VNU Fine Jewelry CEO Summit in February, renowned business author Daniel Pink emphasized the role of creativity in business success:

“It used to be that it was better to be logical, sequential, linear—to zero-in on the left side of the brain, and people with those abilities are 100 percent necessary. Now artistry, empathy and creativity are the parts that matter most."

In his book A Whole New Mind, Pink describes a seismic shift away from an Information Age dominated by "left brain" thinking to a Conceptual Age where people with "right brain" minds like artists, inventors and big picture thinkers will be the most successful. It's a change that Pink says business leaders should embrace if they are to remain on the cutting edge.

These ideas support the learning in Kevin Asbjornson's interactive Performing Arts-based Leadership and Performance experience, Artistry of Leadership®, which shows business leaders how to access their internal creative and artistic competencies to inspire unparalleled productivity, synergy and collaboration.

“The jewelry business is creative by nature,” Kevin says. “But being a leader in a creative industry doesn’t automatically imbue one with the perspective to practice creative leadership. With music as the medium, Artistry of Leadership uniquely relates creative competencies to the daily practice of leadership. It provides a readily accessible and practical framework for leveraging creativity to drive business performance.”

Kevin Asbjornson’s Music Featured on New CD Honoring Teachers in Taiwan-Republic of China

A new premium CD released in Taiwan-Republic of China features Kevin Asbjornson’s original contemporary acoustic piano music. The CD, a collaboration between Jingo Digital and E. Sun Bank, was produced in celebration of 2006 National Teacher’s Day and includes Surrender from Kevin’s Collage CD.

The CD packaging contains postcards devoted to each track on the disc. The text accompanying Kevin’s music translates as:

“The notes of piano become the raindrops after a spring shower, and found the forgotten self at the end of the rainbow. The light from the heart of fire never ends, because I felt infinite warmth here.”

“It’s especially rewarding to be included on this CD because of my professional interest and involvement in education,” Kevin says. The setting for Kevin’s Performing Arts-based Leadership and Development experience Artistry of Leadership is based on the Inspired Learning Model, of which Kevin is both a master facilitator and practitioner. This model centers on the dynamic interaction between the facilitator, learner and the learning environment – an interaction that inspires self-discovery, insight and wisdom.

Jingo Digital is a leading music publishing and licensing company based in Taipei, Taiwan and is the exclusive distributor of Kevin’s music in that country. Kevin has been named one of Jingo Digital’s Top 25 Recording Artists for 2004, 2005, and 2006.

Book by Michael Jones Offers Leaders Insights into the Value of Imagination, Says Fellow Pianist and Leadership Visionary Kevin Asbjornson

“We are entering a time when the primary leadership challenges will not be technical, but transformational. It is a time when leaders will fail, not because of a lack of strategy or resources, but from a failure of imagination.”

This observation, from the book jacket of Artful Leadership: Awakening the Commons of the Imagination, crystallizes for leaders one of their most formidable challenges in today’s competitive economy.

Kevin Asbjornson, MIM, says this book by creative facilitator, speaker, writer and pianist Michael Jones, is a must-read for executives seeking innovative new leadership paradigms to replace the failed ones of the past.

“Jones’s thought-provoking writing resonates with me so powerfully because it parallels my own professional experience in awakening leaders’ capacity for inspiration, imagination and innovation,” Asbjornson says. “As Michael suggests, imagination is the antidote for the traditional ‘mechanistic view of the world.’  His exploration of Artful Leadership is itself a transformational experience.”

RIA Emerging as Metric of Emotional Engagement and Emotionally Intelligent Leadership

Reach and Influence of Audience (RIA), one of Kevin Asbjornson’s Eight Keys to Inspired Leadership™, is not achieved through PowerPoint presentations, memos or meetings, but rather through consistent and deliberate efforts to understand and effectively connect with audiences including employees, board of directors, stockholders and strategic partners. As such, RIA sets the stage for Emotional Engagement, a chief goal of Emotionally Intelligent Leadership.

The relevance of RIA is underscored in an article in B2B magazine about Diane Brink, VP-worldwide integrated marketing communications for one of Kevin’s clients, IBM Corp. The article points to Brink’s interest in innovative ways to communicate the company’s messages beyond traditional channels.

The article notes:

“IBM is also shifting away from more traditional ‘talking head’ events and is hosting smaller, more intimate forums for its key clients and prospects to talk about their business problems and how IBM can help them find solutions.”

Kevin applauds the trend at IBM.  “They clearly grasp the concept of Reach and Influence of Audience, and though their new communications strategies, they will reap the dividends of Emotional Engagement that are sure to follow.”
